We offer NHS treatment to all patients and all patients will be
registered as NHS. NHS prices are set by the Scottish
Executive (click here for a price list) and all NHS practices
charge the same fees. However we also offer many treatments that are not available on the NHS (e.g teeth whitening, white fillings & cosmetic crowns or veneers) on a private basis.
Every dental practice sets their own private prices and we believe ours are very competitive.
This is basic treatment to maintain the health of your mouth and to fill any tooth spaces at the front of your mouth.
This gives the best appearance and is the ultimate in dental treatment. If you want your teeth to look natural this is the best option. Private treatment makes the teeth look real and unrestored.
White Fillings
This is where a white composite filling is placed instead of amalgam. This gives a more natural
appearance. For very large fillings of this nature a composite or porcelain inlay or a crown
should be considered.
Very Small £35 Small £45 Medium £55 Large £65
Porcelain Veneers
“Smile and the whole world smiles with you.” As the saying goes, a beautiful smile can lighten
the hearts of those around you and give you an extra dose of self-confidence at the same
time. It’s obvious that our smile, or more specific our teeth, are important to us in many ways.
3 out of 4 adults in the UK believe an unattractive smile can hurt your chances at business
success.
It may be hard to smile, even if you want to, when your teeth are uneven, chipped or
discolored. If this is your problem, porcelain veneers could be the solution. Although no
cosmetic dentistry procedure can take the place of good oral and periodontal hygiene,
porcelain veneers applied over your natural teeth can easily brighten your smile and your
self-esteem.
Porcelain veneers are thin layers of beautifully shape porcelain which are bonded to the front
aspect of teeth to give a fantastic, un-stainable appearance. It is by use of veneers that they
do the “Instant orthodontics,” on television shows such as Extreme Makeover.
They look natural but again due to being only thin porcelain they can fracture.
£200-£250
Crowns
You are eating dinner and suddenly you are holding half of one of your teeth in your hand.
Weakened by a fracture or a large filling, the tooth is now in obvious need of repair. Your
dentist may suggest a crown, an artificial replacement of the upper part of the tooth, to
restore the function and look of the damaged one. Crowns can be made from several
different kinds of materials, and based on location, aesthetics, and cost, the right one to
repair your damaged tooth can be selected.
Crowns are like “hats,” placed over teeth. Firstly the dentist reduces the size of the tooth and
then takes an impression. The crown is made and is then bonded over the reduced tooth to
give the natural look and feel of an unrestored tooth.
Porcelain bonded to metal crown
Porcelain with a metal substructure. This is a very strong crown suitable for anterior and
posterior teeth. Some of the natural appearance is slightly lost due to the greyness of the
metal underneath. Also as the gum shrinks back with age there may eventually be a thin line
of the metal showing after several years at the neck of the tooth.
£225- £300
A post for a crown
This is used in a situation with very little tooth substance left but where there is a root still
present. This root must have been root treated (the nerve has been removed). A post can be
drilled into the root and then used to fit a crown over.
Private £60
Bridges
You have one or more missing teeth due to decay or an accident. This loss changes the look
Bridges are used to fill gaps where teeth have been extracted. The remaining teeth on either
side of the space are used to cement a false tooth to. Bridges therefore cannot be removed
like dentures can.
Porcelain bonded to metal bridge
This is the same as a porcelain bonded to metal crown but for each unit (tooth) on a bridge it
costs slightly more due to more work for the technician.
£200-£300 per unit
Maryland Bridge
This is a bridge with a false tooth glued with a metal wing to a neighbouring tooth. These
bridges cannot support excessive bite force and so can only be used in certain situations.
£200 per tooth (pontic) tooth
£60 per wing tooth
Lava Bridge made by 3M ESPE
A bridge is a crown or crowns with a false tooth attached to give a realsitc appearance where
a tooth has been lost. A Lava Bridge is made of high strength porcelain thus avoiding the
need for a metal substructure. The result is a perfectly natural tooth affect without the
greyness of underlying metal.
£350-£425 per unit
Inlays and Onlays
More conservative than a crown, inlays and onlays are two methods of restoring normal tooth
structure after decay or other damage. Inlays and onlays are known as indirect fillings
because unlike a standard filling that is done in a dentist's office, both are made in a
laboratory and cemented or bonded to the surface of the tooth during a second visit to the
dentist. And unlike standard fillings, inlays and onlays do not weaken the tooth structure, but
actually strengthens it. After the procedure the tooth can bear up to 50 - 75% more chewing
force.
An inlay is done when the tooth structure replaced is within the cusp tips of the tooth. If the
damage is more extensive and the new structure covers the entire chewing surface
including one or more tooth cusps, the procedure is called an onlay.
These are very large fillings made in a laboratory. They are carved into the shape of a tooth
and are ideal for very heavily filled teeth.
Composite Inlay/Belleglass Inlay
This is a large filling made in a laboratory. It is made of a white composite material and is quite
strong. It looks like tooth substance.
£175-£200
Porcelain Inlay
This is a large filling made in a laboratory. It is made of a white porcelain material and is quite
stronger and looks more natural than a composite inlay. It looks like tooth substance.
£220-£250
Lava/Procera
This is a porcelain material with the exact appearance of natural tooth and the strength of
metal. It is the perfect restoration.
Lava/Procera Crown
This is the ultimate crown. Strong and natural looking. The Rolls Royce of restorations.
£300-£400
Procera Veneer
A strong veneer on the front of a tooth. Will not break and looks superb.
£300-£350
Techceram/Procera Inlay
A very strong laboratory made filling. Looks great and does not break.
£300-£350
Mouth Guards
Mouthguards are flexible plastic appliances worn to protect the teeth, lips, cheeks, tongue
and jaw. They are used during activities that can damage the teeth, most often during contact
sports and – surprisingly – during sleep.
Properly fitted mouthguards can also help reduce the risk of head, neck and brain injury by
absorbing and dispersing some of the shock caused by blows to the chin. Considering that
the mouth is the most commonly injured part of the body during contact sports, mouthguards
should be an essential component in most physical activities. Nightguards are specially
designed mouthguards worn to protect the teeth from grinding (bruxing) or clenching of the
jaw during sleep.
A rubber mouth guard to protect teeth during contact sports. These are custom made for your
mouth unlike the cheaper less reliable options bought from a sports shop. The “do it
yourself,” mouth guards often do not fit accurately enough to provide any significant
protection to your mouth. Leave it to the experts and have yours custom made in a colour of
your choice or even with the badge of your favourite football team on it!
£80-£100
Tooth Whitening
Facial expressions are a large part of body language, and, like it or not, people judge you by
your smile. An attractive smile can take you a long way. S what happens when your pearly
whites aren't so pearly anymore? After years of eating, smoking and drinking coffee or tea,
teeth can lose their brilliance.
This can be done either as nightwear whitening for 2-3 weeks or as one hour power
whitening. From experience the nightwear tends to give a brighter result. The nightwear
involves wearing bleaching trays at night for 2-3 weeks. These trays are custom made for
your teeth. They are quite comfortable and can be kept for top-up spells of whitening in the
future (you can buy more whitening gel from the practice). On average the brightness will
drop by 50% in 3 years. Therefore a top-up every 2 years will counteract this.
Power whitening is done in the surgery with a more powerful whitening agent. It is used for
those who want teeth whitened in a hurry but does not get the same level of brightness as
nightwear. Also there are no bleaching trays involved so a top-up is not available, only a
repetition of the entire procedure.
Don’t confuse these whitening procedures with any of the DIY procedures available at some
high street chemists. This is a far more powerful & reliable system and it is not available in
shops.
Nightwear whitening £250-350
Top-up pack £60
One hour power whitening £250-350
Combination 1hr/home £350-450
Dentures
Private dentures not only look far more natural but they also fit better too. NHS dentures are
often very false looking due to a limited choice of tooth shade and shape.
Valplast (new!) Flexible Partial Dentures
This is a new system and is a cosmetic alternative to bulky chrome dentures.
Flexible partial dentures are the comfortable, beautiful, and affordable choice. It was long
thought that removable partial dentures had to be rigid to be effective. The innovation of the
Valplast® Flexible Partial allows the restoration to adapt to the constant movement and
flexibility in your mouth.
This is the underlying thinking behind Valplast's innovative flexible, removable partial
denture. The flexibility, combined with strength and light weight, provides total comfort and
great looks!
The preparation is relatively simple because your natural teeth don't need to be altered in any
way. The Valplast® partial is virtually invisible because there are no telltale metal clasps and
the material itself blends with the tissue in your mouth so that the only thing that shows is
your beautiful smile.
When considering a removable partial, many people find the Valplast® Flexible Partial to be
the most comfortable option, and the final restoration can be made very quickly! While the
cost is often higher than a partial made with visible metal clasps, the results of the flexible
partial are beautiful, and patient satisfaction is very high. The Valplast® flexible partial
involves only non-invasive procedures, and gives you confidence in your restoration while
talking, eating, and most importantly: smiling!
